DH and I are doing our first kid free trip through Scandinavia in a few weeks. The weather will be 50-60 during the days and 45-50 at night. We are going to Sweden, Denmark, and Norway and plan to hike, kayak, sauna, doing lunch on a dairy/fruit farm one day (ciders, fresh cheese, jams, etc), have a multi course tasting menu/beer pairing booked at a Norwegian brewery one night. I'm going to try to stick to a carry on plus backpack. Any recs for:
Leggings that will be good for hiking Shoes? I have a pair of Sorels that are a cross between a gym shoe and hiking boot (they're water proof) then I need a rec for comfortable black booties. Will that be enough or should I also bring flats and/or sneakers? A backpack that will be good as a carry on bag, but also can hike with Something casual cute for lunches/brewery dinner A good water bottle Saunas are swim suits required, but we booked a private sauna in one location and our airbnb has a sauna in the other location so it should just be us- what kind of suit should I bring? I really just have boring full coverage one pieces from chasing toddlers around the last few years. I already have- a good waterproof jacket, base layers, and a pair of Athleta hiking pants We're doing a lot of outdoor activities, but I would still like to feel attractive and forget I'm actually a 34yo mom of 3 for a bit. |
Do you have any of these in your capsule wardrobe?

We were just there a few weeks ago. A little warmer than it will be for you, but honestly not much (we had highs around 70, lows around 55).
What you describe will be fine for your outdoorsy stuff, I wouldn't overthink it. Scandinavians are super practical about clothes, especially anything they wear for outdoor activities. For a pair of black boots, I'd do a pair of Chelsea boots with a narrow enough shaft that you could wear them under jeans or pants. Highly recommend bringing a dress or two, or a dress and a skirt. I saw a ton of dresses while I was there. Lots of midi length. All different fits -- super loose and floating away from the body, also fitted ribbed dresses and skirts, some a-line as well. Dresses get layered a lot -- you can layer over tights or leggings for colder weather, or wear with bare legs and boots or sneakers if it's warmer. Definitely bring a jacket and sweater to layer over as well. I'd also leave room to shop a little. I found great things in Oslo and Stockholm and Malmo. Copenhagen has great shopping but the exchange rate currently sucks there so I'd try to do your shopping in Norway and Sweden where your money will go further. Amazing sweaters, plus I found some cute dresses and interesting jewelry. |
Thanks Pp that's so helpful |
My sister lives in Sweden and this is good advice. For cities, narrow shaft boots, sneakers, some sweaters, some jeans, and a dress or two. Layer as needed. |
Your bathing suit is fine. I'm sure you have a water bottle that is fine.
I'm not usually all about brands, but I have a Lululemon backpack that I got as a gift, and it is divine. Smooth zippers, nice fabric, easy to wipe down. https://shop.lululemon.com/p/bags/New-Crew-Backpack/_/prod9370190?color=0001&locale=en_US&sl=US&sz=ONESIZE&cid=Google_SHOP_US_NAT_EN_X_Hybrid_Accessories-Test_GEN_Y23_ag=SHOP_G_US_EN_DM_X_GEN_NO_Accessories-All&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3JanBhCPARIsAJpXTx7lE26g_5Yh8tn0cAn1yIhVAJN7IWZdH2ge0K6AVfmlnYLna10MtDAaAu73EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds |
Get a couple of nice bikinis for the sauna. |
