No. I get that admissions are hard these days, but DCUMmers are asking about a lot of schools without academic distinction lately. Unless you're talking about really mediocre students, in which case it kind of doesn't matter, avoid these uncompetitive schools.

^. Wow. Who peed in your cheerios? “Really mediocre students?” Avoid this “Uncompetitive school” without any “academic distinction”?

What do you actually know about Tulane, first hand? Or from a primary source?

Admissions is hard and smart families have a wide range of schools on their lists.

According to the most recent common data set, the SAT range was 1400-1500 so I would not use the words uncompetitive and mediocre students when describing Tulane students.

For the OP, general view is that you have to apply ED to have a shot to get in. They do play the yield game so regular decision is extraordinarily difficult.

Lots of attrition after freshman year. New Orleans is a hard place to be for a newly independent 18 year old. It's also quite dangerous and I wouldn't send my kid there right now.

+2 For the class of 2027, average SAT was 1448 and ACT score was 32. Hardly mediocre. Welcome to 2023.

PP is ridiculous. “Mediocre”and “without academic distinction”? Tulane is a ranked in the top 50 by USNWR (it usually hovers between 38-45). It is a wonderful school filled with very engaged, friendly and smart kids. The students have a happy vibe that you can feel when you walk around campus. Tulane really is a unique place and you should have your student visit to see if they like it. Tulane puts a lot of emphasis in the admissions process on students that are committed to service and bettering their community. The students are very engaged in service throughout New Orleans. I have a DC at Tulane and one at another slightly higher ranked school, so I am talking from direct experience.

Tulane is great. I went to law school there and wouldn't trade my experience for a T14 and a million dollars. The campus is beautiful and historic. There is no city like New Orleans. Even the food on campus is amazing -- I remember wandering into the student center my first week for some food and the soup of the day was a homemade shrimp bisque. The school attracts a lot of people who have the grades/scores/experience to go Ivy but are attracted to New Orleans. Like a PP said, there is a happy vibe on campus. I loved my experience there and would highly recommend that people consider Tulane Law. YMMV a bit with undergrad, but again -- it's a happy place.

You are hilarious. The admission rate is 9.6%. If you think that is mediocre then OMG your poor kid. I feel so bad for the pressure they are under.

But maybe you're a troll. Sorry, hard to tell.

How far is the campus from the sketchy parts of the city?

How are the winters there?
