Easterseals in Falls Church

Hello, we are looking for a new daycare for DS (3yo) who is autistic. Easterseals seems to incorporate sensory friendly learning and is an integrated model for NT and ND kids. Anyone here have experience with it?

I know some people who have had good experiences there, though it was a few years back.

Something to consider - if you ever plan on seeking access to special Ed services through your home school district via Child Find, it will be easier to go with a daycare in the same county as your residence.

Hey PP thanks, that's interesting. Why is that? We don't live in falls church but are thinking about moving there for the schools for our eldest.

This is only important in the very specific situation of having a preschool-aged student who is dual enrolled. That would mean the child went through the evaluation process and was found eligible for special education services. Then, in the IEP the team determines that the least restrictive environment for services could be the preschool the child already attends. For dual enrollees, a community based special ed teacher might visit the private preschool once a week and the child might go to their zoned public school for, say, 30 minutes a week for preschool. Living in a different county than the preschool is in can make it complicated regarding which county is responsible for the services. Typically, only preschoolers with fairly mild needs end up in these dual enrolled situations. If OP thinks this is likely the case then this is something to consider, but I wouldn’t NOT go to a childcare you love because of this. It can be figured out.

The issue is related to living and going to preschool or childcare in ANY two separate counties. I think the OP might be interpreting it as a remark about Falls Church city schools, which I don’t think is your point.

I’ll say I found the waitlist and admission process at Easter Seals an absolute mess when I was looking for care for my son 6 years ago. It was too much of a comedy of errors to describe it all. I will say that about a year after my son started at a different place, we got a tuition bill from Easter Seals. To clarify, we’d never been admitted or attended!
