First grader going to Arlington Traditional?

We just got off the waitlist to go to ATS-should we consider? I realize it’s a great school but we never thought we would get in. My child seems happy at her current school and is doing great academically. But we can’t help not giving her the best since ATS is ranked so high.

OMG, yes. Don't be daft.

Which school would they move out of?

Hoffman Boston

This was us last year. We didn’t find out until Friday before school started though. We jumped at the opportunity. I suggest you make a decision today so there’s time for your bus info, if you need it, to be in order. Along with being able to make all the pre school functions.

If it doesn’t work out you can always go back. Some will say it’s not good to change at this point, but, I think for ATS it’s worth it. JMO

It’s an amazing school. Do it OP. We transferred from Tuckahoe and absolutely loved it. The student population is so diverse. Your kid will be exposed to kids from different cultures.

ATS is a fantastic school. They'll get a great education. Hoffman -Boston is a great school. They'll get a great education. Both have great teachers and the big difference is that ATS has slightly more motivated parents (they signed up for the lottery) and Hoffman -Boston has neighborhood friends. It's also way closer, so the kid won't be in the bus for over an hour a day.

I chose a neighborhood, south Arlington title 1 over ATS. You can't go wrong with either choice, but I found the student/teacher ratios were better at my neighborhood school and my kid thrived in a more diverse and less competitive setting. He was able to excel without pressure from peers. I'm sure he would have loved ATS. It's a wonderful decision to get to make!

We will be staying at ATS. It took a minute to adjust l, especially since it was a last minute swap, however, we are happy at ATS. Especially when it comes to the literacy program. Our DC’s reading has improved drastically and I think it’s because of the phonic based learning. (Not saying other schools don’t have it. Our neighborhood school didn’t teach it in the same way or my DC just didn’t understand it in K).We also prefer the earlier start time.

That makes a lot of sense! Thank you. We do really like Hoffman boston and it is extremely diverse also. But the ranking and how much ATS offers is hard to beat.

We are past first and if we were offered a slot at ATS we would take it. Good luck OP!

Quick question - is it true ATS kids don’t have a middle school they feed into?

Correct. You feed into your zoned neighborhood school.
