Mosaic elementary AAP

DD is a second grader at Mosaic Elementary. I am looking for timelines and an overall understanding of what happens when.
1. COGAT in October - correct?
2. What is the teacher's criteria for making a recommendation? Is it based on the grades in 4 quarters or is there more to it? When does the teacher make a recommendation?
3. When do parents have to write a recommendation? What do parents typically write?

I don't know for certain yet if DD would be an AAP candidate. She is good overall, reads okay, writes okay. I have nobody to compare against, so not really sure how the others of her age are. Her NNAT was 128 (good I guess but not great for this zip code?)

As you may understand, new mom here who has not been on this path before. Timeline information is appreciated.

One more question.
What happens if DD gets to be in AAP? Does the school stay the same and the classrooms change in third grade? Or does the school change next year?

School stays the same as it’s a center.

The in-pool scores will be set based on a combination of the top 10% of scores in the NNAT and CoGAT. I would guess that a 128 is below the cut off. For reference, the county wide cut off had been a 132 on either test until they moved to the local scores.

Each Teacher will have their own criteria for what child they might refer. Mosaic strikes me as a school were there are very few Teacher referrals because it is a Center and because it sounds like parents are willing to refer. I know Teacher referrals are more common at Title 1 schools or with ESOL kids, places where parents are far less likely to know about AAP or parent refer.

Thank you.
Do the parents refer if the teacher doesn't refer? Or do the parents have to refer on their own? What is that timeline when that referral should occur?

Your school will have several meetings about this. Attend those meetings when they are held.

Yes, parents absolutely refer. As PP mentioned, there are probably very few teacher referrals that occur outside the Title I realm. If you think your child would benefit from the program you should definitely self-refer. This is very common.

With the new local standards in place, 10% of every elementary school is in-pool and thus teacher-referred.

In pool and teacher referral are two completely different things.

I have been following another thread here where the OP's child is at a "cluster" school vs. a center. Someone said above that Mosaic is a center. Does that mean that an entire class of kids in the third grade will have only level IV kids?

There will be 3-4 classrooms of only AAP kids. There are probably 2-3 classrooms of "regular" (on grade) kids. And generally, they don't mix much.

My kid will attend Mosaic AAP in 3rd grade. There are 2 AAP classes, and 4 general ed classes.

When were you informed that your child was selected for AAP?

It was at end of last school year. He was attending Daniels Run before 3rd grade.
