PT salary help, working at a school

Anonymous
I am moving from NJ, where I was a guidance counselor at an independent school and made 60k. I graduated six years ago. I am about to get an offer from an independent school in Montgomery County for the same job, except 3/4 time (working 30 hrs/wk instead of 40). I am a little nervous because they have not mentioned salary at ALL and I honestly have NO idea what to expect. I am scared because I also interviewed for a similar FT position at a different area independent school and they told me it paid 45. Was the 45k school just an outlier, or is that how much these positions pay in the DC area? Any chance I can make 45k working 30 hrs/wk (that would be the equiv to 60k for 40 hrs/wk).

Any help would be appreciated!!

I work a 24-hour week and make over $50,000 for a public system.

You might want to look into all of your options.

Thanks! Can I ask how long you have been working?

for quite a few years (15) - But starting salaries aren't too shabby, and often you earn steps based on experience.
Click on this link - http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/ersc/salary_schedules.shtm - and choose Teachers (MCEA). Howard County is also a great place to work, but it's not close to DC by any means! And the salary scale is much lower.

Benefits are the best!

And b/c counselors aren't anchored to classes, PT is easy to schedule.

Are you fluent in another language? Spanish, for example? That is also helpful in certain schools with a high ESL population.

good luck!
