I joined a local swim club this year and we prepaid for private swim lessons in May. The swim club manager set up the first one and after that I was supposed to coordinate via text with the swim teacher to schedule the remaining 7 lessons. I explained I needed mostly weekend availability and the manager said it wouldn't be a problem. It has been like pulling teeth to get these lessons scheduled. After every lesson I will ask the girl (who really is a girl) she's in high school if she can do the next lesson the following weekend and she never knows her availability. I have been going along with it all summer but it has been frustrating. Anyway I reached out to the manager and asked if there was anyone else since her availability isn't working as she's not getting back to me. The manager didn't respond and a few weeks later I expressed frustration because at this point the summer is almost over and we need to get through the lessons. In the second email I mentioned she didn't get back to me about switching or using more than one swim coach. I was shocked that she said she didn't think the first email warranted a response because Nichole (the high schooler) is the one doing the lessons, not her. As a manager she seems pretty clueless about managing. I am also new to this swim club and it has issues with enrollment so I was taken aback even more by her response. The first week they had a major plumbing issue and I had to change into my swimsuit in a porta potty. We didn't have access to a real bathroom for weeks. There is one changing room and it doesn't lock. The pool randomly closes a lot due to maintenance issues. My son does love his teacher so that's awesome. I was surprised she was taking such a hands off approach, but they did already have our money for the lessons, which had to be cash or check. I wish I knew how run down this place was before signing up. There aren't any reviews mentioning maintenance issues, but I know this year it has been a PIA to have so many closures. I find it hard to believe this hasn't happened in prior years. I am tempted to leave an honest review.

I’d be tempted to complain until I was reimbursed the remains amount. |
You need to write a review to save others from this place. |
Op here. We are going to do 45 minute lessons so we should be able to get through the last three. There is a communication issue because I'm not sure if the lifeguard doesn't know her availability because she doesn't know her work schedule until last minute. I have asked the lifeguard why she didn't know her availability, but she was unclear. Sometimes she will say because of work or vacations etc. This is why I wanted to give feedback to the manager so the manager can help out but her only response was kind of rude. An email doesn't warrant a response? That would be a bad business practice unless the email mentioned not to respond. Her solution is to say the swim teacher said she's doing her best. |
Is this a summer pool only |
At our pool the swim lessons are free lance by the kids who are authorized by the Board to give them (usually lifeguards who are also on swim team), so the pool manager has nothing to do with it. Its up to the person taking the lesson to make the schedule with the teacher. |
They need to step in if the teacher isn't available. Op didn't pay the teacher directly. |
If it’s going through the pool as a group lesson, the teacher might not be making much money from it. My daughter taught a week of group lessons and only got paid in the low teens per hour for them, versus a lot more for a private lesson. That might mean you at at the bottom of this girl’s priority list. Plus in August after the college kids leave, the high schoolers tend to be busy.
I would complain to the management company who manages the pool and pays the lifeguards, they might be able to make it happen. |
Cancel the rest of the lessons and ask for your money back. |
What pool is this? |
Read the op. It's a private lesson. Group lessons have set schedules. |
Does it seem normal to you? |
At our pool you sign up and pay individually for each lesson. |
That’s ridiculous. Name the pool and write an honest review. |
This is the manager's fault. Minors can be flakey and need a lot of guidance. The manager is an adult and needs to manage. You go there, throw a fit, demand your money back. Your kid can learn with someone else. This person is not it. |
