| My kids are begging for the runny, liquidy style ranch dressing that can be found at restaurants. Does anyone have a recipe? |
| Get the powder mix and adjust the ratios to use more buttermilk and less mayo. I also like to substitute sour cream for half the mayo for extra tang. |
| Make the powder mix and adjust the ratios until it's the right consistency for you. Then add some fresh minced garlic and parsley. |
| I wouldn't say it is liquidy (you could thin out) but Wiseguy Pizza sells bottles of their fresh ranch and it is very good. |

I love California Pizza Kitchen’s runny ranch dressing. I found this copycat recipe, and have been meaning to try it, but haven’t yet.
California Pizza Kitchen Garden Herb Ranch Dressing ½ tsp dry mustard ¼ tsp cold water 2 ¾ C mayonnaise 1 C buttermilk 7 T sour cream 2 ½ T apple cider vinegar 1 ½ T thinly sliced scallions (greens and whites) 2 tsp minced garlic 2 tsp minced fresh Italian parsley 1 ½ tsp Worchestershire sauce 1 tsp minced fresh dill ½ tsp minced fresh oregano ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper ¼ tsp minced fresh basil In a mixing bowl, use a fork to stir together the mustard and cold water, forming a paste. Set aside for 10 minutes. Add all the remaining dressing ingredients to the bowl and, using a handheld electric mixer at low speed or a whisk, blend together just until smooth, taking care not to incorporate too much air into the dressing. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. |
| Flip, what say you? |
| I love the really bad for you full of fat versions of ranch dressing but I can’t use buttermilk. Is it worth it to make it without? I’ve always assumed that gave it the rich flavor. |
| I always put a bit of lemon juice in if I don't have buttermilk or sometimes even if I do. It's a nice addition to level it out a little. |
| If you can’t use buttermilk, skip the lemon juice and add pickle juice. Just splash some brine from a jar of pickles. This is my secret ingredient and I always have people raving about my dressings. |
Interesting. Do you have a favorite recipe you’d share? |
| Ugh none of the powdered stuff please. Use fresh herbs. The Pioneer Woman has a good recipe. |
| I too am waiting for Flip Driscoll’s take on this , in haiku form of course |

Packet of the RESTAURANT STYLE Hidden Valley ranch powder
1 cup of McCormick Mayonesa with lime mayonnaise 1 cup of buttermilk That’s it. It’s perfect. You can add a squeeze of sour cream if it’s too thin or a little more buttermilk to thin it out. I make this weekly for my kids to dip veggies in. |
