Starting tretinoin

Any tips for starting tretinoin? .05. How bad does it look when starting out? How to ramp up slowly?

Start just once every 2-3 days alternating with days where you use good moisturizer. Over time you’ll be able to use it every day.

How long does it look irritate or cause breakouts?

does it tighten skin at all?

Starting with .05, I’d go once the first week, and then twice the next two weeks. You can try every second night for another week or to.

If you have irritation, try moisturizing on top of it. If you get significant irritation (redness, sensitivity), I’d go back to less often.

You don’t want to f up your skin, so I would go slow. Is there a reason you’re not starting at .025?

Well no one is going to like my answer but...YOLO... I bought it on my own in Mexico, so I bought what my friend uses, which was the .05.

I started with .05 and never had any issues. I started every 3 days, then after a week did every 2, then every day. I don't have acne prone skin, though. I think those that do are more likely to have the purging effect.

Agree w others to go slowww. You can try to first mix it w a light moisturizer/serum, skip days ( once a week, etc)

Get ready for some peeling! Keep some moisturizer handy to cover the daytime flakes

I use Altreno which includes moisturizing ingredients and is .05. I have VERY dry skin (like I don’t produce any oil (sebum?) bc of accutane…I think my accutane went too far) and I do moisturize my skin and then the altreno and haven’t had issues with peeling, etc. that said, I’m sure I am not getting the full impact bc I do layer moisturizer under it but I am just risk averse given my already dry issues and I do avoid my driest/tight skin which is right by my nose/cheeks.

Is this OP? You bought the tretinoin in Mexico and not an American pharmacy? OOOOK.

You can go every other day. Sandwich your moisturizer. I didn't have as many issues as others, so YMMV. Wait 20 minutes after washing face for the skin to dry before applying. Use a sunscreen in the AM. For peeling, get a wet towel or washcloth and just rub the skin off.

Idk what brand OP bought but I've bought "retin-a" made by janssen in Mexico before from a reputable pharmacy and never had a problem.

Op, you should have started with 0.025. It took my skin months to acclimate before moving to 0.05%, but my chin is special and still can't tolerate that strength after 1.5 years. I use 0.025% just in that area.

OK but we don't all have your skin. I started with .05 and now I'm at .1% and had no problem. My derm said unless you have sensitive skin, it's fine to start at .05 and use it less often.

I use Curology but same procedure. Even .02 has been really drying.
