do you tell folks when a post of theirs has been reported?

No, Dorrie, he doesn't. Goose just assumed you had reported his post, and that his mere reporting of your post caused his post to be removed. Jeff takes the board very seriously. He reviewed what you wrote; determined that you were not a troll, and removed Goose's post, wherein he called you a troll, as his post was the one that was damaging to the thread and to the board.

Goose is short-sighted enough to think that when some simply asks for a reason to support Gray other than as a protest against Fenty, that person must be a troll. Because everyone should know that Vincent Gray is the Messiah, and anyone who questions that has to be a troll.

This is pretty much right on target. The first response to your post was a message calling you a troll. I really hate people posting such messages because they are wrong the vast majority of the time. But, it is particularly aggravating to have such posts be the first response in a thread. That pretty much eliminates the possibility of a substantive discussion.

Therefore, I removed the response in the hope that it might allow a substantive discussion to get started. The post of the "troll alert" message apparently felt that his message had been reported -- it hadn't been, and posted the comment you quote above.

I almost never contact a poster to tell them their post has been reported because I almost never have their email address. Posters seem to assume that if their post is removed, it is because it was reported. But, I remove all kinds of posts that haven't been reported. At any rate, I appreciate people's reporting inappropriate posts and would never do anything to discourage them from doing so.
