Help me think - hurricane hilary

Anonymous
We are in California. Supposed to be at Disneyland Saturday, check out of hotel 11am Sunday, drop off rental car and fly out 5pm. Rain at a minimum will hit Sunday so far - unclear if winds will be bad by then or not. What should I be thinking of or planning for? Have a kid with me. Never traveled with weather issues before. Thanks for your thoughts.

There’s a 20% chance of rain on Saturday. Is that a concern? No one thinks so other than you.

If the weather becomes a concern the airlines will let you change your flight. Just keep an eye out. I would not change any plans.

We lived in hurricanes. The airlines will call it if it’s not safe. If you just get outer bands of rain, but not fierce winds, you’ll be perfectly fine.

We only had a direct-ish hit once. We had many many many outer bands. There are winds to watch for, depending, but it’s usually just rain. **Gorgeous weather before and after**

I think there is a 99% chance you will be fine leaving on time. That said, I’d bring some extra underwear and snacks, and maybe have a vague idea what you want to do if your flight is cancelled. But that’s good practice in general. I don’t like evening return flights for this reason (more likely to cancel) but sometimes it can’t be helped.

The news just said the storm path will bring localized flooding to the LA area. It’s the first socal landfall since the 1930s.

Why was it necessary for you to be nasty to OP? Have people been dismissive and hurtful to you in the past? If so, I'm sorry you've experienced that. If you don't want to inflict that pattern on others, try being the change you'd like to see. That can feel very powerful!

It's going to turn into a windy rainstorm at worst. Follow Josh Morgerman on twitter - he lives in LA part-time and knows more about hurricanes than just about anyone.
