Our new principal is coming from your school..do you have any feedback for us? Thanks! |
He's been fine. He is above all a politician--i.e. he will always be friendly and glad-handing and tell you what you want to hear, while simultaneously leaving himself a face-saving "out" for not doing whatever he promised. (That is not to say that he doesn't do what he says--sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't, but if he doesn't, he will always have a "reason.") He is accessible to parents; that is a distinct positive. He is extremely focused on "data-driven" methods. Basically, he is a friendly, decent-enough hack, a bureaucrat, who has his eye on moving up within the ranks. You could definitely do worse, but he's not phenomenal or anything.

Thank-you..sounds very similar to the guy he is replacing. We are all a bit concerned about the fact that our school is more than 2x the size of yours..and much more diverse. Hopefully his adjustment will be swift! |
He is moving to College Gardens, so who is replacing him at Westbrook?
And are there many Elem schools in MOCO that are the size of CG? |
The process to select a new principal is very short. Parents are involved. You will probably hear about it soon if you are a parent there. They do interviews and then the appointment is made a few days later. The new person will start the next day. |
why are these MOCO principals playing musical chairs? is moving to a new and larger school a step 'up' careerwise for them? |
Well there are certain benchmark numbers of students at which principals get raises/bonuses. Maybe why some principals are recruiting kids to their already overcrowded schools. |
How would a principal recruit kids to his school? Do you mean giving a waiver to out of boundary? |
Or NOT giving a waiver to a kid who wants to go to an OOB school. Or a magnet, or a GT school. That explains a lot actually. |
I think the first poster was very generous in the statement that this principal is a politician. Politicians are more consistent with their messages. Mr. Ewald can come up with so many different interpretations of the same thing.
It is true that you will hear from him what you want to hear, but most importantly things will not get done if they involve potential confrontation with his staff for instance over a dirty field, poor supervision, etc. As for accessibility, it all depends. Last fall he "agreed" to come out of the building for a few weeks to greet the arriving students and their parents. In my opinion he should have been there every day. I am sure you could do worse. |
Does anyone know who is coming to Westbrook? |
They do not come from the schools but the district office assigned to the schools. |
We now have the best principal at Westbrook Elementary. Thank you Damascus ES for letting us have her. Good, honest and caring elementary school principals can still be found in MoCo. We were all scared after our previous experience. |
CGES parents are still looking for more details on the negative comments on Mr Ewald..so far so good with us (or at with least the parents I talk to)..but it is really still too soon to say |
