There is currently construction on the part of Jones Mill Road just north of East-Way Highway. I've called the non-emergency police number twice now - they really need to provide traffic direction assistance at Twin Forks Lane and East-West Highway during rush hour. Since you cannot currently turn left from Jones Mill onto East-West (traffic light) the cars have to divert onto tiny Twin Forks and do their best to turn left onto East-West Highway (no traffic light). As you can imagine, during rush hour this is a nightmare and everything is incredibly backed up. Today there was an accident because someone tried to turn left while another car was driving westbound.
Posting here because maybe if enough of us call, they'll actually do something? They put a big sign on Jones Bridge Road that Jones Mill is closed but at that point, it's already too late. |
| They need to add “Local Traffic Only” to the “Road Closed” sign, and put more of those signs further away. I was trying to get to the farmer’s market last week, saw the sign and didn’t turn down that way because I assumed it was actually closed. Then I saw it wasn’t when I detoured around via Jones Bridge/Connecticut/East-West and saw that it was actually open northbound, just messed up at the end for the southbound people. |
| I live nearby and agree that it's totally maddening. And dangerous. There was a bad accident right after they set up the barricades, a few weeks ago. The only change they made was to trim some of the shrubbery that made it impossible to see the oncoming cars. It's still ridiculous that they're encouraging drivers to dart across EW Highway in rush hour traffic. I really hope that they finish whatever they're doing before school starts because there's a ton of school bus traffic on Jones Mill. |
| Are they building an interchange there??? |
With the one I witnessed today, that's at least two! |
It's Purple Line construction. "Crews continue work in the Jones Mill Road underpass area through August. Work includes utility relocation, construction of retaining walls, and completing the east side of Jones Mill Road. Work may take place 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and overnight 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. weekdays and weekends, as needed." https://www.purplelinemd.com/construction/construction-updates |
Don't feed the interchange troll pls
|
| The Purple Line website has now updated to say that the work at Jones Mill will continue through September. This is our regular commute route and it’s horrific. It is completely unreasonable for the people living in the immediate vicinity. The road should be completely closed to all but local traffic. I am using alternate routes, which stinks, but cannot imagine how terrible it is for those living in that neighborhood. |
| Isn't that intersection in Chevy Chase? |
| I live near this location and agree that it is a terrible situation. I've seen several accidents. The sooner it is done, the better. |
| I don't think this is purple line construction. "East side of Jones Mill Road" is what it says - this is the intersection of Jones Mill and Jones Bridge, I think. |
