| One part of the family wants beach and the other part wants to see Atlanta (never been). We are pretty new to the area and have not been to an east coast beach other than Rehoboth other than Florida. Any way to combine these desires- beach within a couple of hours on a drive from DC to Atlanta? |

So you want to stop by a beach for a day or two en route to Atlanta, correct?
How much time do you have? The driving alone will take an entire day (even when stopping for a beach day) on either end of your proposed road trip. And 95 N and S can be a real slog especially since this is still peak season |
Yes, that’s right. Or maybe stop by Atlanta for a day or two before/after a beach? We have about a week and we like long road trips. |

Atlanta is better to visit for spring break. It's quite hot and humid there in the summer.
What about something like Rhode Island and Boston for now and save Atlanta for another time? |
|
I would only pick one - either beach or Atlanta - what’s the appeal of Atlanta- not trying to be snarky, just curious.
How about Charleston? Or Savannah? |
| Agree with pp, wouldn’t do Atlanta in August. RI beaches or Cape Cod or Maine, instead. |
| Do Hilton Head, cut over to Atlanta and then drive back to DC from Atlanta. Not the most convenient option but probably the most practical. |
Agree with this suggestion. We’ve done it before. I might hit Atlanta first then do HH and drive back home. I would do a Sat to Sat trip. Drive all day on Sat. Spend Sunday and Monday in ATL. Leave Tuesday for HH, stay until Sat and drive back. |
