NNAT or WISC for 1st grader?

DD has been homeschooled and we're planning on public school next year. Would like to have things in line to apply for AAP. I'm guessing I'd have to get DD tested on my own and I know GMU offers testing, both NNAT and WISC. Any advice on which one to seek? Is one viewed as more informative by schools/committees?

AAP doesn’t start until 3rd grade so your child will take Cogat if they’re attending public school nxt year in 2nd

nnat is what all fcps 1st graders will take - IIRC GMU may not take kids til second grade - but check on that yourself - I may be misremembering.

The WISC is the better test. honestly I don't how the AAP selection committee looks upon WISC scores absent a LD. I feel like they do not favor it.

I called the AAP general number and spoke to a staff member who spoke about the benefits of WISC compared to the Cogat and NNAT. Specifically, they indicated that they liked the detailed 5-10 page report produced and felt the descriptive nature was very helpful in making decisions. Given this, they felt that Cogat or NNAT were not necessary.

The WISC is a much more comprehensive test and is infinitely better. -school psychologist.

Tests given at school are given in large groups, and that is not helpful.

Anyone successfully use a WISC instead of a NNAT? I hear a lot of people mentioning using WISC for appeals but not so much to replace a test they would have gotten had the child been in school.

NNAT is the least reliable test and it’s unclear how much longer FCPS is going to bother using it. If I were coming from private or homeschool, I’d get the WISC, bc it provides a more accurate profile than CogAT.
