The MCEA is just as much to blame for the PBHS principal situation

If MCEA spent less time protecting terrible teachers from being fired and more time actually supporting its hard-working members, they could have been an actual resource to those experiencing harassment. Instead, they say “have you tried sitting down and having a conversation?” and then running off to a legal hearing to protect a con-artist “teacher” who collects a paycheck and does nothing.

MCEA does not help at all. They want the members to do all of the work. Okay, then why are you taking my $$? Why are you not in a classroom? And why can you not explain simple language from our agreement?

Yes, mcea very much failed to protect these women. The thing is that they're in bed with the administrator's union. MCEA needs to be implicated in this coveruo as well!

Unless someone is a first-person witness prepared to describe the activity of the union rep who is personally named in this article, all speculation to this effect—a platform for anti-union sentiment in a clear case of catastrophic failure at every level of MCPS—is nonsense.

In fact, I wondered whether guy played some role in the fact that this piece showed up in WaPo.

So when dozens of women who all belong to the union have made complaints and this principal has been promoted...then yes, the union,.who is supposed to protect teachers, is at fault as well.

It is hard to say as the union is pretty weak and MCPS ignores it for the most part.
The union is not allowed to call a strike so MCPS knows there is not much the union can do

MCEA has limited abilities. I started the process of filing a formal complaint, which is putting things in writing in a certain context. Admin catches ok quickly and retaliates. I never went past that point because even if I had complained straight to Khalid Walker, admin would know eventually and could still make my life miserable. Look what good it did for those that did!

Unless you know something specific about what the union did or did not do in attempting to address this, your focus on the people who DO NOT manage the school district is bizarre.

Well, MCEA also kept school closed for two years, so there's that.

DP, but that would just tell you whether MCEA was complicit versus merely incompetent. Not good either way.

Just don’t join. Or leave the union.

All of our unions suck. They take our dues and don't do anything to help the employees. A colleague and called twice a few months back to file a complaint. We spoke to a rep, who said he'd call back after talking to the head of the union, but never did. We had legit complaints and wanted to file a grievance. We called again and he was never "available." We sent two follow-up emails. No one ever got back to us.

I quit.

I was harassed relentlessly and pressured to make up numbers. The union does not care. To them you pay dues so they can fight against teachers and make them powerless to do their job with support. I advise against a career teaching. Not worth it. Let these corrupt admin wallow in their own filth.
