DC Short term disability question

Anonymous
I recently had a baby and as part of my DC employer’s maternity leave package, I am using six weeks of short term disability. My employer’s insurer is deducting several thousand because they say that I can file a short term disability claim with the district and the district will pay me the amount deducted (such that I would be made whole between DC’s payments and the insurers payments). The problem is that I can’t find any information on how to file a claim with DC. I work for a private company, not the government, and I am not planning to take the DC paid family leave time. I think the insurer is confusing the DC paid family leave time with DC short term disability benefits for government employees. Does anyone have any experience with this? My employer and the insurer are extremely unhelpful but the deductions are pretty significant (will total almost 10k with zero clarity on what’s happening). Thanks in advance.

Go here and register: https://does.pflbas.dc.gov/vosnet/default.aspx

They will contact your employer to confirm salary, and they will tell your employer what they paid your (so your employer can make you whole).

Note: you will likely need different forms for DCPFL than the ones your doctor filled out for your STD at your employer.

Also, your employer was supposed to give you this information (if they are DC-based). Whether you choose to report that or not is up to you.
