Curious if they investigated possible arson that could have started this whole thing. Anyone know? Remember everyone thought the fires in Greece were natural in origin, but they investigated and found it was arson. |
I’m sure it’s part of the investigation OP. How much of the truth the public will ever know is another matter. |
Most likely cause was high winds compromising the high voltage power lines. They were previously warmed it was a risk and they ignored. |
No evidence of any warning. Any reason for not sounding the routine sirens in emergencies?? |
One reason I saw was that the sirens are usually for tsunami warnings and people go up and away which would have been the opposite reaction needed. That was a concern. The other was that it happened so rapidly, there was not enough time. I realize that there are arguments going against both, but those are the two possibilities I have heard. |
The escape road was blockaded by officials. Residents who obeyed — burned to death. Residents who defied the blockades, and went around them — lived. |
The power company has said downed wires caused a fire, which the fire company put out but appears to have reignited later in the same spot. If the power company thought they could point to arson instead, they would be doing that.
There have been multiple fires burning on Maui this whole time, due to dry conditions. I'm from California where, similarly, we have small fires going on all the time. Some of them are arson but most are not, and any of them could expand into a tragic event due to bad timing and weather. I would love for the public conversation to be about unmaintained power lines, which are widespread and a known cause of deadly fires. |
