Clothes for thin 14yo girl

Anonymous
Hi! Any suggestions for clothes including dresses for a thin 14y0? DD is 5’5” and maybe 105lbs. Finding it hard to find clothes that fit her frame and are teen-appropriate/“in” (ie not from the kids section). Thanks!

I know this may not be what you are looking for, but the Nordstrom girls section has some teen-looking stuff that would fit a smaller frame.

We have the same problem and no perfect solutions, just empathy. Mine is 11, about 5'4", and under a hundred pounds. We mostly end up going with Athleta/Lululemon, and have better success with lines that have women's xs than teen or kids sizes. Finding "nicer" clothes is hard, though we sometimes have success with Zara and Mango.

Someone recently mentioned Brandy Melville to me as an option. I think it's too teen for my tween, but might work for your daughter.

Thank you! I will look at Brandy Melville.

My 15yo is about the same size as your dd and has been able to find things at Brandy Melville, Aerie/American Eagle in size 00

She also has a couple pairs of jeans from the Gap that are size 24, which she wears with a belt. Dresses are harder, but generally, the bodycon, stretchy dresses in xxs or xs tend to work.

Aritzia is good for smaller frames, but it might be a little older style? I have no idea what 14yo girls wear these days lol

Agree with all of this; Hollister also has XXS/00 which has worked for shorts and jeans. We were successful at Athleta in finding an XXS promotion dress for DD who is also 14 and similarly sized.

My DD is similarly sized and buys casual clothes online from Hollister, Tillys, PacSun etc (mostly due to sizing…her pants/jeans size is never in-store). Also Lulu. Dresses are really tough, but in the past year we’ve had the best luck at department stores.

Abercrombie's kid line is great for pants - the sizing goes up to 17/18, but they're designed for slim teens and come in short, regular and tall. They're not just the XXL version of a kids size. A lot of the reviews are from petite women who buy the pants in short because they fit better and are cheaper than women's sizes. Wait for a sale that fits what you want, because something is always on sale.

Gap used to have a good teen line but I've had a hard time finding much on their website lately.

My best store for pants and bottoms for my daughter (she’s 85 lbs and 5’) is Hollister. American Eagle also has shorts that fit. Since your daughter is taller, she should also look at Garage; lots of clothes for tiny waisted people. Pacsun and Aerie occasionally have something.

Dresses are hard. Altar’d State is a possibility. I get my daughter’s recital dresses (so they’re more formal) on ThredUp, mostly new with tags. No consistent brand; just pick based on measurements.

Online is ALWAYS a better option.

At a slightly different price point than many of the brands named here, we've had success at Old Navy, esp when their jeans go down to Size 0 and 00. They also tend to have school-appropriate items. Dresses are difficult, no matter what. Either they're too kiddie or too low on top/too short on the bottom.

Brandy melville tops for sure, although the pants might be too big because they do a weird one size thing. When my daughter was that size she couldn't wear the bottoms, but can now at 115lb same height. Go try on in store.

Hollister, American Eagle, pac sun, all have small sizes. honestly most teen focus stores are going to have things that fit her since although she is slim she is a standard height so the proportions should be okay.

Lululemon is pretty small in the small sizes as well. I don't even think she would be a zero there as its really small, maybe more of a 2.

My daughter is 5'0" 80 lbs and has been able to fit into xxs and xs dresses at hollister. We've also had luck with aerie/american eagle. I was buying children's sizes for the longest time but then realized that the teen stores actually better for the slimmer sizes.

12 yo DD Is 5'3' and 90 pounds. AE 00 works great with a lot of age appropriate stuff.
