My 7 year old has a long almost surfer haircut right now because we let it grow for months. Looking at what to tell a barber for a haircut but every picture I found is a fade or broccoli cut. I don’t know to say beyond « normal haircut. »
Can anyone give me the language or help me pin down some regular boy hairstyles? |
| What does your kid want? |
He wants it « a little shorter » in front because it’s in his eyes. I’d like the sides and back cleaned up a little at least. Last couple times I said something like that, the cut turned out terrible (two different stylists). This time we are trying a barber. I’ve also been placed that insist on asking me over and over what number I want. I don’t know what number! |
| A picture is important here. Google boys/men's hair cuts. There are more than the 2 you mentioned. |
| I'm a guy and if I want normal, I say just a trim, off the ears, taper in the back |
| Also if you go to an old school barber, tell them you have a wedding/concert/whatever and he needs to look nice. They will give him a 'normal' cut |
Thanks! This is simple and sounds normal. |
Oh that’s a good tip, thanks. |
They will chop off all his length if you ask for his! We learned the hard way and my kid cried all the way home. |
So short on front, tight on the sides. Here's a perfect example of that.

Go on Pinterest or Google and find a pic of what you want to show the barber.

| What number guard do boys use on the sides and back? Does anyone just do scissors or is the clipper standard for around the ears and back unless the hairstyle is past the ears? |
I’m on google and no longer know what a « normal » haircut looks like. 90% are fades of some kind, few bowl cuts and the rare buzz cut. I’m looking for a normal haircut that doesn’t require gel. |
What do you ask for now? I told the last stylist we wanted a trim but cleaned up a bit and she chopped and buzzed everything off and accentuated his cowlick and bumpy head shape. Granted this was a Supercuts. |
That's what a normal haircut is |
