If you were a first time Peloton user, would you get a Peloton or the Peloton Plus? Is the upgrade worth it? Would you rent first? |
I suggest you rent first. I'm embarrassed to say I've barely used my Peloton; I found sitting on it very uncomfortable. |
The seat gets way better with time. Stick with it! I have the basic peloton and don’t know what I’d be missing vs. the plus. |
+1 When DH first started using his he had a hard time adjusting, now he doesn't even notice it. He's been using it for 5 months, 7 days a week - has missed maybe 3-4 days. |
Just got a refurbished Peloton Plus. |
Thanks. That's inspiring. I need to just do it. |
I should have also mentioned he's dropped 45 lbs since starting to use his Peloton, that combined with cutting back on snacking. He's never felt or looked better! |
As a bony individual, I had to get a padded seat for the bike. But since then I've been riding 5 days/week for 2 years and love it. |
The peloton is a very upright bike position, so it’s going to out a decent amount of pressure on your sit bones. Get yourself some bike shorts or bike bib shorts on Amazon. And, use the bike. That’s what is going to make the saddle discomfort go away. No need to modify the saddle itself.
I started on our original peloton and now have a fleet of bikes, some of which are very aggressive. My climbing / crit road bike has an aggressive saddle and I can ride that bike 100 miles no problem. |
I think the swivel screen is the main difference so it kind of depends if you'll want to do other exercises near your bike. I just use the Peloton app on my living room TV and I've never felt a need for the swivel screen. |
It takes 8-10 rides before your butt feels better.
You can get padded shorts from Amazon in the meantime. |
Ditto. I love all the content in addition to the rides. We bought ours and each use it at least 4 days before we week. It’s fantastic. |
get the plus |
Swivel screen and apple connectivity are the only reasons to upgrade. I set mine up with a TV nearby so this has been a nonissue for me (I just switch to the TV when I'm doing floor exercises). It is a little annoying SPECIFICALLY in bike bootcamp classes but that's honestly it.
It is a pretty steep markup for this one manageable thing. The seat issue - I echo the seat cover I have a seat cover I bought on amazon for padding. And for me the handlebar thing has been clutch (I'm short) for comfort (handlebar thing: https://getaerow.com/products/comfortgrip) - Bought a peloton in 2020, have lost 50-60 pound since and am in the best shape of my entire life at 38 For those of you who do every day, are you doing a lot of HIIT? I feel like when I ride every day I burn out really fast. I am at a pretty sweet spot of 4-5 days a week, and while in the beginning it was all riding it is now more like 1-2 days riding, 2-3 days strength, 1-2 days running (some combo) |
+1. Got the refurbished Bike Plus and have found it worthwhile. The swivel screen is a big plus for me as it makes my workout space work much better especially since I usually stack classes (bike, strength, stretch). I also really like the automatic resistance adjustment. It keeps me accountable and makes me try more resistance than I probably otherwise would. I also agree with all the PPs on the padded bike shorts. |
