20th anniversary recommendations?

Anonymous
My wife and I are celebrating 20 years next Friday. We like good, simple food and are not particularly “fancy.” We’ve enjoyed meals at Little Fountain Cafe (rip!), all of the José Andres venues, Trummers in Clifton, and other small spots that didn’t make it through the pandemic.

I’d love recommendations for a nice but kind of laid back place where the star of the show is the food, bonus points for an in-house pastry or dessert chef. We’re based in Fairfax but could travel.

Thanks!

Not sure if you can get in, but L'Ardente has a dessert with a sparkler that could be fun.

I thought our meal at Trio Grill in Merrifield was remarkably good and the desserts were delicious. Definitely laid back, and try to reserve a booth.

Praline bakery and Bistro is comfortably laid back, with good food and desserts.

Not what you asked for, but if you end up in the DuPont Circle area, Un Je Ne Sais Quoi is a tiny bakery cafe with EXCELLENT desserts.

Inn at Little Washington, Black Berry Farm. Trip to the best in NYC or even London or Paris.

I second this. If you are feeling more casual, they have a brasserie on the same property that shares the kitchen -- Jacques Brasserie.

I agree with PP that suggested The Inn at Little Washington as perfect for a milestone anniversary, but it would be almost impossible to get a reservation there at this short notice.
