Whatever you can nicely afford

Forget the honeymoon fund. That’s tacky. Just give them a check for the normal amount you’d give. $200-300 if there’s two of you going.

If they put honeymoon fund on registry/gift, it probably will just be cash for them. Why is that tacky?

Those honeymoon funds take a big cut- like 8%. That’s the tacky part. Just write a check and they get the full amount.

I always give a monetary gift (actually a check). I don’t care if they pay their electric bill or add it to their honeymoon fund. The honeymoon registry is tacky to me so I do not acknowledge.

Why does the wedding location matter? Are you asking if the amount should be different because it isn't local?

We always did $50 as a wedding gift but we haven’t been to one in years.

Anyone else confused about the juxtaposition of the wedding being held and Newport and the need for a "Honeymoon Fund"??

You're already paying for a not cheap hotel plus travel costs. I'd cut a check for what you're comfortable with. In my case knowing I'm already spending, what, a thousand to be at the wedding, it would be a very small sum. I might be sparky and get a pair of glass candlesticks from the local consignment shop rather than any cash. I hate the notion of cash as wedding gifts as it's a shake me down.

I give according to the relationship. If this is close family, $250 a guest. If it’s a colleague, then $100 a guest. Etc.

Op here-thank you all. I am asking how much is reasonable to give as a gift after spending a ton for hotel arrangements for weekend in Newport. Is $150-$200 reasonable or too cheap for both dh and myself? I don’t have a checkbook so was hoping online gift of either amount would be ok.

$200 is more than enough.

$150 may be a bit too cheap as a dinner for 2 in Newport in summer will be at least that so think of it as paying for a dinner out plus a bit more so $200 is probably right amount.

Definitely $200 unless you are a couple under the age of 25 or so
