Why is "freedom" a wedge issue for the right?

Few people don't believe in any government or laws at all, and everybody has different conceptions for what a free and just society society looks like. So why do right-wingers insist that they're "pro-freedom" and liberals and the left are "against freedom"?

Because the pro-freedom liberals won on a lot of freedom issues, and with liberals being pro-government, many of them have dropped their general pro-freedom positions. ACLU hasn't been as generally pro-freedom as before.
