Which backpacks are in style for middle school girls right now? |
My middle school daughter asked for a new Jansport, solid color, since her old one is falling apart. It’s the same brand she has used since kindergarten. I don’t think this matters much. Have her pick out a backpack she likes. My older kids didn’t care about backpack brands. |
LLbean or Jansport. But I don’t really think it matters. They aren’t allowed to carry backpacks around anyway. They have to be kept in locker at all times. |
I’m the first poster and this isn’t the rule at our school. Almost no students use lockers and everything is in the backpack, which they take everywhere. |
Most middle school kids I see have solid color backpacks -- any brand -- but yeah, they're only seen going in and out of the building and no one seems to care (according to my kid). |
North face is the trendy choice |
North Face |
Jansport |
+1 the brand I see most often |
Both of my middle schoolers have North face. |
North Face for our DD. She switched from LLBean. |
+1 She insisted on North Face |
Fjallraven |
My 5th grader had Fjallraven this past year. My oldest has an Alexander Wang Wangsport, in middle school she had a Kate Spade large tote, my son had whatever I bought him. |
As the one who has always repaired everyone's backpacks in my family, Jansport holds up the best over the years. LL Bean is also really good.
The North Face costs twice as much and does not hold up any better at the seams than Jansport or LL Bean, and for rips that occur away from seams or on straps, they are actually harder to fix because the material is not as good quality. You basically have to get a swatch of fabric and make a patch -- that never matches. The zippers are the most critical point of failure in any backpack, and TNF zippers are not better than Jansport in that regard. With TNF you are paying a premium for the brand name, not durability. |
