La Paz , Mexico

Hello. We are thinking of going to La Paz, Mexico (2 parents, 3 teens) over winter break. Has anyone been? How was the seaweed? How long did you stay and do you have any recommendations?

We stayed there two nights, going to and coming back from a glamping trip on Isla Espiritu Santu. We stayed at Hotel Catedral, which was nice, but in the middle of town, and maybe you want to stay on the beach? I didn’t swim there so no advice on the seaweed. We went to a very expensive and really bad restaurant, whose name I am racking my brains to remember! If I do I will come back and let you know so you don’t go there.

I’ve been to San Carlos and Puerto Peñasco which are further north on the Sea of Cortez.

The water is perfection, no sea weed, so clean and beautiful.

But WAY too cold to swim in in Dec/Jan. It can actually be kind of cold there that time of year. Like…50s at night and 60s during the day.

That's not beach weather time. It's their winter. Good for golf or whale watching though. Why not just go to Cabo?

Two words.
Whale.
Sharks.

Does anyone have good restaurant recommendations for La Paz?

Also, I’ve been trying to google when the whale shark season officially opens and I can’t find anything online. I know there have to be a certain number of whale sharks in the sanctuary for a certain number of days before the government allows tour boats, but I can’t find this info online. Anyone have a link?
