| Our school seems to have co-ed volleyball. Is that typical? Does your school offer field hockey for boys or is it just for girls? |
| Field hockey is just for girls in MCPS. MCPS does offer co-Ed volleyball in spring. |
| Volleyball and FH is only girls at our FCPS high school. And there has been a lot of drama this week around tryouts and teams! |
We'll second that. Volleyball rosters are very small and lots of cuts happening. |
| VB is girls only at APS. W-L and Yorktown have club hockey teams, not sure about Wakefield. |
Not sure what you mean by club? Both W-L and Yorktown have freshman, JV, and varsity field hockey teams. |
| Both girls only. Volleyball is competitive to make the team. Field Hockey is essentially no cut it if put forth some effort. |
VB is tough bc they only take 12-14 players max bc you don't need a big squad (only 6 people on the court). FH has 11 on the field so the squad is 22-23. A much greater chance of being selected. |
Same in APS. Some very good players didn't make a team this week. It sounds like the turnout was huge. |
| reviving this old thread as rising WF 9th gr dd is thinking about volleyball or tennis but i just don't see her making either - unless there's freshmen team and no-cut. appreciate any update. thx! |
Do they field three teams? We are in LCPS and they field a freshman team, a JV and Varsity. |
|
volleyball = athletic and fit young women
field hockey = young women who are typically overweight and hate running. My personal experience watching 4 years of both in public HS. |
|
Volleyball is the new soccer for girls.
Field Hockey is a sport for kids who hate sports. |
Wow, times have changed. It was the opposite when I was in school. From what I recall field hockey involves an incredible amount of running. |
|
rising WF 9th grader? What's WF? I assume your kid isn't in MCPS because I don't know what WF is and girls volleyball and tennis are in different seasons in MCPS.
Is WF a wealthier school? If so, probably hard to make teams. I don't know if they have freshmen teams. Good luck! |
