My wife and I have a disagreement over how much most adults eat. Partly it’s skewed by our heritage - I’m from large white American stock and she’s Asian, so right there we grew up with different expectations for meals.
But she claims the people in her downtown office eat small portions (which maybe true they are mostly much older like 60s, and I think appetite wanes), where my office skews younger (and less educated, hers is full of lawyers, mine are IT nerds). For lunch I see guys grabbing Chick-fil-A meal deal, which even I feel is a ton of food. A good example — when we order pizza I say budget two slices per person, and she says one. |

It really depends on the adult. Their background, metabolism, age, gender, activity level, everything. There’s no real “normal” imo just average.
For pizza, I would budget 2 slices per adult but not expect every adult to take two. |

I've noticed that people tend to eat less when they are older. I think it is fairly normal for someone who is 60 to eat a smaller, healthier portion of food and someone who is 25 and still has a fast metabolism to eat fast food.
As a whole, US adult serving sizes are outrageous (and I'm also from large white American stock). Although, I think 2 slices of pizza is completely normal if that is the main part of a meal. |

Americans overeat by a lot...look around. 70% of people are overweight. Over eating is normalized now in US.
But you are right in that older people do eat less overall; less metabolic need, less muscle mass. |
Some people will take one, some three, some none. I think 2 per person is a good rule |
| 1 slice of pizza? I’m 125 pounds and I’d eat 3, 4 if I’m at home and it’s dinner. Of course I’m only eating that if the host ordered enough but I’m not shy. |
| It really depends on who is eating. My nephew eats two egg and cheese bagel sandwiches for breakfast, whereas that would make me puke. |

Big portions of junk food is cheap. Small portions of good food is expensive.
Americans overeat junk food and the cycle continues to obesity. |
Same. I'm feeling like quite the overeater here, lol. |
This is true. But you can also eat decent quality food for relatively cheap if willing. 5 organic bananas from Whole Foods is like $1.80. I bought those earlier. Rice is cheap. Bulk chicken breast is cheap. Etc.. |
| We really weren’t talking traditional fast food. More like a call your mother sandwich bagel. Her office no one finished their sandwich |
We know. But people are lazy and like to make excuses |
| I think I’d have issues with constipation if I ate 5 bananas for lunch. |
| I'm a small female and usually eat small portions, but when it comes to pizza, budgeting for one slice per person is just unrealistic. And it anyone outside of your family is concerned, then definitely err on the side of being generous with portions. |
| I always budget 3 slices pp if ordering pizza for adults. I always have leftovers, but I'd rather have extra than have people wanting another slice but being afraid to take it in case there isn't enough. Most people eat 2. |
