What is the best compliment you've ever gotten?

Or something positive that someone said about you that's stuck with you?

I am not terribly attractive. I’m 100% ok with it now, but it was a bigger issue for me when I was younger. I was dating a guy in a frat in college, and he took another girl to a dated party. I was friends with his roommate (same frat), and he was flabbergasted that the guy I was seeing took another girl. I asked the roommate “was she pretty?” And he said “not as pretty as you.”

I will never ever forget that.

At work, someone said I am calm no matter what, and it reassures him.

When I was in college I went with girlfriends to a club. There was a weird guy; he came close to us, stared at me and said ‘you have beautiful eyes’. One of my friends teased hhim ‘what about me? Aren’t my eyes beautiful?’ He replied ‘your eyes are pretty but in her eyes I can see a clean soul’. After that he left without a word!

Not sure it was the best compliment given the circumstances, but a man once broke up with me citing his reason that I 'needed a more intellectual man for my partner'. I think that was sort of intended as a compliment? Or maybe just a lame excuse he didn't think I'd argue with.

I get lots of compliments on my eyes and hair, but I don't really care about those.

My mom died when I was 7 and we shortly left that town (her hometown) thereafter. I went back to that town every summer and stayed with my grandparents. One time when I was 17 I was getting ice cream and a lady stopped me, close to tears, and said “I just know you are Diane’s girl, you ARE her.” And it was a lovely lady my mom went to highschool and college with and it was such a wonderful experience for me. I really was struggling without her and especially grieving that I never really knew her and just knowing that I looked that much like her and that I reminded others of her really helped me get through my young adulthood!

I know this is not what you mean, but twice in the past week I’ve had people tell me I raised a good kid, and they were referring to my challenging ADHD one.

Super kind thing to say.

That I was hot enough to be a bartender at a bar the employed hot female bartenders.
He may have been drunk or trying to get in my pants. I’ll never know but I was flattered. Pants stayed closed.

I was at a family party with husband's extended family and we were playing a game where there's a question and you write down who it fits best. The question was "who can make something out of nothing?" And unanimously everyone put me and then my very macho BIL (sport shooter, fisherman, mechanic) who I never really knew if he liked me much said something about how make every space I enter warm and welcoming.

My best friend told me if everyone remained as invested in marriage as I did, marriage would be a beautiful concept.

A colleague told me shortly after she had her first baby "I hope this isn't weird, but I have you in mind for who I'd like her to turn into as an adult".

I feel like I'm a pretty average person (def looks wise) and don't really get many compliments in life, but I'll never forget those.

Some of these posts are very touching.

1. You look just like a young Debbie Harry (from a homeless drunk man, no less)

2. When you're on stage you bring so much energy it's like you infect all the other performers with it

A straight man with good fashion sense told me he was obsessed with my hair when I started styling it differently. (And he wasn’t attracted to me)

My mom told me that I'm such a good mom, she wishes I had been her mom. I know this sounds weird, but it was a huge compliment to me.

I’ve had several people tell me they’re impressed by how calm I am, and it always catches me off guard. I’m quiet and slow to anger but really quite anxious inside most of the time. I seldom feel calm, and I never know quite how to respond.
