Travel agent

Has anyone worked with a travel agent whom they would recommend? For context, I work long hours and don’t have the bandwidth to do all the planning necessary to ensure a great trip. I am a very Type A traveler (it’s how I can be relaxed when I get there!). I usually have spreadsheets, itineraries, everything planned out to the minute detail. This time, outsourcing would be helpful.

I've worked with several, and they have all been great -- I choose, depending on where I'm going, from the list of top TAs that Condé Nast puts out. They specialize -- I didn't use the same one for a safari that I used for Austria.

People will say that in the age of the internet they aren't worth it, that you can figure everything out on your own, but they can do things you can't. For example, when we landed in Tanzania, beyond exhausted after damn near 24 hours of travel from the US, we got into the long line -- which was outdoors in the heat -- for health screenings and customs. But then I saw someone walking around with a sign with our names on it. They whisked us out of the line and into an air-conditioned building where the customs agent stamped our passports and someone fetched our luggage and brought it to us. Only a powerful TA can do that.
