Baltimore Celtic 2008b

DS is interested in possibly exploring Baltimore Celtic. Does anybody have familiarity with their ECNL and ECNL-R teams and where they practice? We’re in MD and options seem very limited for ECNL. The ECNL site lists the club as Mt Airy. Is that where they actually practice?

We’re very familiar with Potomac which now has ECNL but really need some other good options.

That 08 Celtic ECNL team only won a single game last season. Them and the other MD teams were moved to the northeast conference for this coming season. Don't think that will be much easier.

Thanks for the info. Options are just so limited in MD while there are so many in VA. The issue with VA teams is they have the opposite HS season and he would like to continue playing HS.

I think at least some of their practices are at the new(ish) Liberty Sports Park in Bowie.

Wait. Doesn’t Potomac have an 08 ECNL team that practices at their field behind Kentlands Middle school? There is also Maryland united - they definitely practice in/around Bowie. Good luck!

My guess is that the 08s will practice a decent amount down in the Severn area. Celtic ECNL does rotate sites so you could also see Catonsville, Owings Mills, or UMBC.

The move to the NE conference should actually be beneficial. The Mid-Atlantic is known as the hardest conference top to bottom, including both team quality and travel schedule.

Also, teams have already been made for the fall. You will need to reach out to the folks on the website to get practice info if you want a tryout.

This is very useful info. He noticed they were listed as Mt Airy which is a trek but doable. Catonsville, Owings Mills or UMBC would be too far for sure.

Potomac just moved to ECNL. He played for them years ago and was hesitant to go back this fall due to a particular coach. However, we recently heard they had major coaching changes in that age group and now he’s reconsidering. Unfortunately, he’s probably missed the boat.

Heard some rumblings that majority of the 2008 Celtic team moved over to Maryland United this past year....maybe find out why?

Potomac is newly in ECNL this year--so maybe they are still looking at talent as they form their team?

Potomac has an amazing A team in that age group that is just switching leagues. I’d be surprised if they are looking for new players for that team. DS has many strong friends who have been trying to make that team for years. They have a pretty good B team that his friends play on that is now moving to ECNL-RL. My guess is any new players this late in the game will be placed on the C team.

They brought in a new coach. He coached the Nigerians national team for women. I would check it out. They had quite a few kids leave and they may have space.

There is always room if a player is good no matter how late to the game they are. There is the added pressure the club has now that they are in ECNL —they need to compete strong out of the gate in a tough region for ECNL—so odds are they are looking at all viable options to form best team possible.

They were technically the 2nd team two years ago at Celtic, (and were very successful) then went down to Md United last year following Elton their coach who took the 08 ECNL coaching job there.

Celtic 08 ECNL revamped w/ new team and coach, it was f/k/a Celtic Green 08 Sporrer. They have a roster of just 19, he’s gotten good results in the past (albeit at a lower level), and it’s almost entirely a new team. Coach is head coach at Spalding HS, and I’ve been told that’s where they’ll practice this season. My DS is not on the team
