Last minute soccer fun for the week

Anonymous
I've got my 15-yr-old nephew here in the DMV with me for the week. He's very into playing soccer, and I'm wondering how the teen soccer scene works around here. Are there pick up games, and if so, where? I think I'm too late to put him into a formal camp, but any ideas would be welcome. TIA!

This isn’t what you asked for, but I would take him to a pro game in DC. United or Spirit.

At 15, boys aren't really organized about their pick-up games. It's going to be very last-minute and among a friend group.

I agree with PP's suggestion of going to a pro game, that would be a fun treat. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about being super soccer-centric with him. What about a day trip to the beach? A water park? Do you have kids around his age?

The only pick up games I see in the DMV are grown men playing. Of course, that could be different depending on the neighborhood but kids in the area seem to be more focused on training training training.

Did he even think to bring his own soccer gear with though in the off-chance you'd even find a teen pick-up game?

You might have better luck on a neighborhood Facebook or email list, but I wouldn't worry too much about being soccer focused unless he's specifically requesting that.

You could take him to see Loudoun United play. They have a day time game tomorrow.

How about you take some time off work and spend some time with him yourself instead of pawning him off on strangers? Sightseeing perhaps? Water park? Pool?

Take some time off and do sightseeing, a water taxi ride from DC to Alexandria then have dinner, Mini golf at Tidal Basin or driving range/lunch at Top Golf, take a day/overnight and head to Colonial Williamsburg and/or Busch Gardens, Six Flags (Bowie), do a tour at Library of Congress, Nats game, etc.

Maybe OP just has him for the week but didn’t really want him. Seems like she’s expecting someone else to entertain him?

What weirdos some of you are! Not sure how your freaky minds concluded that I was trying to pawn him off. How many teens do you think wouldn't appreciate a chance to hang with other soccer playing teens instead of spending 24/7 with their 50-yr-old aunt?!?!

He did bring his soccer gear along since he is really into playing soccer. The DC team is out of town this week, so going to a pro game won't work.

Yeah but teens he doesn’t even know? My kid wouldn’t want that at all and neither would the kids who don’t know him. Wow.

Hey nephew, go hang out with these teens I found on the corner - I have no idea if they are good kids but they like soccer. No idea if they have drugs or knives on them. No idea when they are being picked up by their own parents. But take yoir soccer gear and join them. See you later. Pick you up at 6 pm.

Then teen goes home and mom asks what he did. I hung out with kids I didn’t even know and my aunt was nowhere to be found.

You are insane!

Very unhinged. It’s not uncommon for kids who don’t know each other to play anyway.
