Where can I get Kobe beef?

Anonymous
I'd like to get DH kobe beef for his birthday. Anyone know where I can buy kobe beef locally, or are there any restaurants that serve it? I found this website that has it, are there any others that people would recommend? http://www.allenbrothers.com/ TIA.

Try Balducci's and Whole Foods.

Just becareful when spending your money on this. Many, many places claim to carry "Kobe Beef" when it is really Kobe beef style or Wagyu. There was a ban on it years ago due to mad cow disease and places have taken over with Kobe this and Kobe that. If you are looking for true Kobe/Tajima beef from Japan, I have no idea where you could find some, but I would call around first and ask.

We got some from Wegmans, but that was last year so I'm not sure if they still have it.

OP here, thanks for the responses. I had tried Whole Foods and hadn't seen it there, but didn't think of Balducci's. Will head to Trader Joes's if I can't find it there.

I highly doubt you will find actual "Kobe" beef from Japan at any local grocery store

found this link for local places

If one were to find authentic Kobe beef or even a good wannabe, how would one suggest preparing it at home? Let's saying outdoor grilling is not an option. Any ideas?

I once saw it available at Wagshals on Mass Ave. in Spring Valley. I would try them.

I think the key is to not overcook it. I'd make a good spice rub, coat the steaks in olive oil and rub and then pan sear and finish in a hot oven.
