Just flew out of Logan. It was one of the nastiest places I've been in an a loooong time. Bathrooms were basically not cleaned at all with water and trash everywhere. There was trash, food debris, and nasty grime all over the floors and seats everywhere in the terminal. Seats and walls absolutely gross with black sludge between them and on walls. Planes absolutely filthy. Just a really nasty nasty experience. Europe often has airports dirty like many American airports, but why don't you ever see major airports this bad in Asia? The cleanliness in airports in Japan, Korea, and heck, even Thailand are way better.
My skin still crawls thinking about how nasty Logan was. God knows what I stepped on while trying to use the restroom there. |
| Oh, I've seen several airports in Asia that are worse than Logan. |
| And several airports in US that are better than Logan. |
| Do you actually want to get into the “why” or do you just want vent? |
|
Before I read your post, I was about to say I went to a pretty gross bathroom on our return trip from CDG. But...
That sounds absolutely filthy. I am glad I don't have to fly in/out of Logan. FWIW, at least our local airpots in DC are pretty darn clean. * And to be fair, the rest of CDG wasn't that bad. |

I’m going to disagree that they’re cleaner overseas. I’ve been in a lot of airports in Africa that don’t have air conditioning and the power would go in and out.
I do think that there’s just an overall lack of cleanliness everywhere. Everyone wants to say it’s not their job. Even cleaning ladies will say they’re only paid for a cursory clean, and what you need is a deep clean. |
| I’ve not been to Logan, but this is not my experience at the American airports I’ve been in. |
| Don't ever travel to africa, OP. |
| You should get lounge access if you want better bathrooms |
| Why didn't you fly private? |

I have noticed airports in the US are getting worse. I think it had to do with the overall culture in the US. No work ethic and people no longer care.
The same goes for others services as well. |
I agree with this. I flew to Dulles recently after stopping at a couple of Scandinavian airports and the level of service, cleanliness and functionality at Dulles was shockingly bad. I have lived in the US for 15 years and the country has declined significantly in that time. The infrastructure is deteriorating and people don't care. Americans have no longer any pride left in their country. |
+100 Americans have given up on service and now take zero pride in their work. Then they feel entitled to everything and high compensation. |
| I've read that airports have a hard time getting employees. One is even opening a daycare center to help attract workers (which is a great idea!) |
| When I was at Logan, the employee came in to 'clean' the bathroom, which consisted of him wiping down the sink area for about 8 seconds with a paper towel, a little spray on the mirror and that was it. Didn't even touch the floors or toilets. I haven't seen a bathroom that nasty except maybe in poorer backholes in 2nd world countries. |
