Looking for 8 yo (turns 9 during winter). Previous experience with summer swim and FINS. Does ASA have any in water instruction? My kid is a very kinesthetic learner and did much better in the GiNs environment versus summer swim where it was all coached from the deck.
Looking for something year round that is more personalized than the county run programs like Stroke and Turn. |

Going to let you know that once you get out of swim lessons and move to Stroke and Turn and Club swim - coaches are walking the deck.
I run a large swim team and do not agree with the modality in all cases. Sometimes kids need to see a move and/or be manipulated. I would recommend supplementing with some private lessons with an instructor that will get in water. |

NP - that's for the competitive team. Rising Stars is like regular lessons. |
Why not continue with FINS? I think most of the in water group lesson instruction is at levels below where your DC is clearly at if they did summer swim. I think your only option would be private if you want in water at this level but would be interested to hear about any local options that fit this bill. Having said that, I have seen instances w/ some of the younger kids in RMSC minis who were clearly "not getting it" be pulled out of the water briefly for a one-on-one, hands directed interaction w/ a coach on occasion but that is not routine and was on a rare occasion - but other than that it's all coaching from the deck as the PP pointed out. |
