Guaranteed snow on the East Coast in December

Anonymous
My kids just crave a real winter with a lot of snow. Unfortunately nova disappoints every winter. We have not vacationed since before Covid and we are willing to shell out some bucks for a really great winter break trip in order for our kids to see snow this year. Can people recommend an over-the-top Christmas destination on the East Coast? I’m thinking like Hallmark movies. Thank you so much.

We did Killington VT this year for Christmas. Two days before it was awesome - snow covered, great skiing. Then the driving rain and pelting ice washed everything away Christmas Eve. In this age on climate change and crazy weather, I don’t think there are any guaranteed white Christmas on east coast.

+1

We skied at Killington over winter break it was horribly windy (closed the lifts), icy, and all out miserable, but there was snow on the ground.
Then it sleeted.

The only near guarantee is at high elevation in New England. Like Lake Placid in NY or Stowe in VT.

Agreed. You'll probably also have some luck with the White Mountain area in NH.

Yes! I went there in early December last year (from NYC area) and it looked like something out of a Hallmark Christmas movie. The Christmas market was awesome with lots of good food. There was a little bit of snow on the ground and there was also a minor snowstorm one of the days I was there. I don't believe there are any direct flights from the DC area, but you can easily connect through Newark on United (nonstop year-round).

Stowe is near VT's highest point but the town itself is at 889 feet.

+1. I’d do Quebec instead - Mont Tremblant is similar elevation to Stowe but 200 miles further north so probably a safer bet

Lake Placid is not in New England.
