Virginia dealer said car had MD state inspection, but it doesn’t

Anonymous
Bought a used car from a dealer in Virginia. I asked if the car had a Maryland state inspection as well. The sales person did not know, but the manager came and told me that the car had also passed the Maryland State inspection. He said I was lucky and made this sound like a great benefit.
We ended up purchasing the vehicle. Processing fee was $795, then another junk fee for the service of them doing the registration and tags.
Our temporary license is now about to expire and we have still not received the registration or tags we paid for. After phoning and asking if there is a delay we hear that the car needs to pass Maryland state inspection.
This despite paying a $795 service fee that could not even include a verification to the question of whether or not the car had a Maryland state inspection certificate.
Is this common practice among Virginia dealerships?

The dealer is in Virginia

"If the vehicle is used, you will be required to have the vehicle pass a safety inspection once the vehicle is in Maryland."

Everyone knows that. In this case the manager said that the car had already passed the Maryland inspection and the customer did not need to do that.

Do Maryland inspections not come with a sticker? In Virginia this would be easy to verify because the car would either have a current inspection sticker on the windshield, or it wouldn't.

Why would a Virginia dealer get a Maryland inspection when the car doesn't have Maryland tags? Do you think they just get inspections on the off chance someone from out of state buys the car

Hahaha typical Marylandite.

OP, you should have asked for the proof regarding the passed Maryland state vehicle inspection to be included with the paperwork from the sale. You didn’t, so go get it inspected. This sucks, I’m sorry. But having had to do the title/tag transfer process myself for a car I bought privately in DC when we live in Maryland, it was a giant PITA and whatever “junk fee” dealerships charge for this is well worth it.

Sometimes the seller gets the state inspection done before selling the car. So the dealer said that the vehicle had one

You didn't ask for a copy of the inspection certificate when you purchased the car?

OP, did you not ask for a proof?
