Blair, AHDH and 504s

Any positive stories of a kid succeeding at Blair who has 504 with ADHD? What worked, what didn't?

Any similar stories that Blair should be avoided for kids with ADHD and why?

What are other DCC options did people select instead of Blair due to ADHD?

What about private high school options for kids in the Silver Spring area with ADHD?

Thanks in advance.

I'm confused. Why would success at Blair be any different than any other HS in MCPS? I'm assuming you're not referring to the magnet program since you mention other DCC options.

OP here. Blair is the biggest high school in Maryland. I was asking in that context. It's very big and whether kids with ADHD thrive there (via school support or otherwise).

All the high schools are big. Blair being bigger won't make a difference in the ADHD front.

You should probably ask on the special needs forum. You'll get better responses there.

Probably has more kids hyped up on amphetamines bouncing off the walls.

And this is why special needs questions don't fare well here.

I think some of this depends on your guidance counselor. Most are good at Blair, but at least 1 is a total deadbeat (at least as of last year). Blair's guidance resource teacher (head of guidance) is outstanding. So, if your counselor isn't helpful, contact her. Kid should have a 504 meeting during the fall to check on plans. Full disclosure, my non 504 went to Blair, but we know kids who have 504s there who are doing well (and one who struggled,
but they had the deadbeat counselor). My 504 kid is at another school, but I think teacher advice would be consistent regardless of school. Most teachers are responsive to 504 needs but may need reminding (they have a lot of moving parts to manage). Kid will need to know the plan and advocate from time to time. Only a very few times has a teacher been difficult.
