. . . should be out soon (next couple of days, from what I recall from tryouts). Let us know when you hear, and from which site!

Yes, you are right

How does this work? If your child is waitlisted, are you told how high on the list they are?

Does anyone know what percentage of kids they accept? Is it like half? More? Less?

we heard, at least for the 9 to 12 age group, that there were 4 spots for 300 tryout-ers at Rockville and 14 for 200 in Olney. But that's like third-hand info

That's not surprising with the middle groups. Best you get in for Mini's.

It depends on the site. There may be one opening, there may be 20 - depends on who moves up or leaves.

Olney said about 17 spots for all of the 9-12 age group with >200 trying out.

Got our notification today. DC didn't get a spot. MLK minis.

That's unfortunate. Try the Swim Montgomery or Stroke and Turn or both.

It depends on the group/age.

The juniors are the toughest based purely on numbers and demand. Those groups tend to be full with returning swimmers and 'new' swimmers aging up from minis. I know at one site there were around 180 candidates trying out for just 5 available slots. So you could be solid 10yo swimmer legal in all 4 strokes and still not make it in - I'm sure there will be numerous swimmers in this category when the dust settles. That doesn't mean the kid isn't a good swimmer it just the numbers.

For minis(8 and under) you might have a 12-25 slots open at any site but no less than 100 trying out for those slots so the odds are long but not unrealistic.

From my experience, you are not told where you stand on the wait list - your best plan and healthy mind-set is to move on to plan B and improve for next years try out if you are so inclined.

This, it took us multiple tries at different sites to get in. We also did the swim Montgomery and stroke and turn so the coaches would know our child and it was cheaper than private groups. It was also easier in years past when they had two try outs a year to get in during the spring session. But, keep trying.
