Federal Telework Affects Alexandria Government Offices

The brand new huge NSF building is barely occupied. It's crazy to think they poured so much money into the building and surrounding area improvements.

The Mark Center building was the same. So controversial and now barely occupied. They don't mention the Victory Center over on Eisenhower Ave but that building has never had an occupant since being built.

I think it's clear that we have turned the corner and telework is going to continue to the area to be the norm. I can't foresee any more big investments into these kind of office buildings from private or government entities.

They should turn Victory Center into a combo homeless shelter / affordable (below-market rate) housing complex. Put in a 7-11 next door and we have a great place for un-housed folks to congregate in less-dense areas.

Actually that is a really good idea!

I understand it's somewhat difficult to convert office space into living space. Something to do with the plumbing ratios needed. Not impossible, but not an easy fix.

Victory Center is going to be demolished for housing I thought. Anyway, this isn't an Alexandria specific problem. The most useless agencies are also the agencies with the lowest attendance.

That's not what your linked GAO report says, it's just your own ignorant a-hole opinion.

What about a second high school?

It’s fine that we run a jobs program for our laziest citizens. At least when they’re tele-loafing they can’t mess anything up.

No way. Then they would have to meaningfully address the connector, which is a can the city will kick down the road forever. Spending $100M+ on a BRT is preferable.

You never explained how it is impacting Alexandria government. Aren’t they still paying rent on their leases?
