Camp: beginner in an intermediate level for soccer

Anonymous
My daughter has played rec soccer. No interest in playing at college level. She does want to attend a camp so that she plays better in high school. There are 2 camp options. The more convenient one is a more advanced level. The manager said that as long as she has played before she should be ok to attend that one but my daughter is nervous that the other kids will not be patient with her. What are your thoughts?

It’s hard to answer. How old is she? How long has she played soccer? Is she one of the strongest players on her rec team? When you say the camp is advanced, does it specify it’s for travel players only? My son has done a few camps over the years but stopped in middle school. What we observed is that most camps have a variety of player levels. This has been true even for the ones run by travel clubs. For that reason, she will probably be fine assuming she’s a pretty good rec player.

You might want to post this in the soccer forum which is anonymous again.

My boys went to camps that were marketed for all levels but I know the coaches draw very advanced kids and knew most of the kids who would be not only travel kids but high level kids.

I wasn’t worried about my boys but I know some of the other boys we know who do travel but fairly low level would not have enjoyed it. The kids are just so much more better and competitive and it would be pretty discouraging.
