Back from visiting family - my parents

I miss them but they are so loud! I didn't realize how quiet of a family we were until visiting after so many years.

Their hearing is going. They don’t realize it.

What happens to your hearing as you age? Does everyone's hearing go south?

yes. Very gradually every sense deteriorates. That is hy they are also heavy handed on salt, sugar, butter and spices. Cognitive decline also happens.

Yup. You should see an audiologist around age 50 to check your hearing and establish a baseline.

I find that it is selective—with my parents, I pretty much prepare once words come out of my mouth that I’ll have to repeat it at least once, after getting a “Whatttt?” in response to the first attempt.

Conversely, getting up in the middle of the night and stepping on a creaky board will merit a “WHAT WAS THAT, WHAT WAS THAT” from them so loudly it wakes up everyone.
