The Creative Act by Rick Rubin

Anonymous
Anyone else been reading this?

I thought when I started it would be just a thoughtful amble through aspects of creativity by a man who is clearly a genius on many levels, but really it's a deeply patronizing book, written as if for total dummies who've no experience whatsoever with art, literature, architecture, music or any other creative pursuit.

It might as well have been marketed as one of those actual "For Dummies" books, it was so disappointing.

Ugh, yes. My boss recommended it to me and I tried to read it. I found it painful.

Reading the Beastie Boys Book—which I recommend—made me want to have nothing to do with Rubin.

Thanks for the warning! I tend to avoid pop psychology books, sounds like this won’t convert me.

I regret buying it. A lot of podcasters I listen to were hyping it up and I fell for it. It’s really drivel.

Yeah this is OP and I'm pissed. It was all over a table in Barnes & Noble, like the best thing since sliced bread. I want my money back. It's a cash grab, 100%.
