Does anyone have experience switching school before the child even starts? Because of feeder pattern my child was offfered a school twice the distance and time from one that is closer but not in the feeder pattern. Calling MCPS has been slow. They are very slow to respond and say a lot of it procedural stuff they need to check on.
Also, when do assignments actually happen? WHen we had the IEP back in May, my child was offered a school but then it wasn't clear if that was finalized. |
| It's hard to get info in the summer. It's the same curriculum everywhere. Where you need busing to can affect placement eg if your kid gets picked up from a distant day care provider. If you can't get answers by calling your local schools then call the PEP office in Rockville. |

Get a letter from your child’s psychologist or pediatrician stating that bus ride over x min would ne difficult for your child. Or that your child is not ready to be on the bus at all and you need to drop off and pick up at a closer school.
Stictly speaking, feeder patterns are reflected in house values, but for special needs MCPS might cave if you make a case. Call the office in Rockville for forms/procesures. |
| Make sure whatever classroom your child is assigned has an actual PEP teacher. Many are filled with long-term subs who have been a disaster. The special ed teacher shortage is real. Meanwhile, Central Office just keeps on adding kids to classrooms, so not only are they understaffed, but overcrowded (neither lead to success for PEP 3 and 4 year olds) |
| You can email the principal and copy the pep parent educator of the pep site where your child went to school last year and ask for clarification. It might be faster than hearing from the pep office. Also try emailing Mary rose catena in pep |
