Well, this is a new one. I was driving on Veteran’s Highway near Route 50 today, going along with the flow of traffic, when all of a sudden the truck in front of me threw what I thought to be a cigar out the window. I quickly realized it was a string of those fireworks that make a lot of noise and emit sparks, the black ones that kind of look like they’re strung together on a chain. They started to explode as I was driving over them; the car behind me drove over them while they were still going off. I was so startled and taken off guard, but because I was in a long line of cars and going through an intersection, I just kept driving (the light had recently changed). I could smell them, but my tire light and instrument panel seemed fine; all was well. DH inspected my car and confirms all is well.
It happened two hours ago, and I still feel shaken up over it. I feel dumb for still feeling that way, but here I am. |
| Don't feel dumb. These days its more likely to be gunshots than firecrackers. Whoever did that did it to scare you and thought it was funny. |
| This is a fantastic reason to have a front and rear dash cam. |
You are right. DH said the same thing. -OP |
Thank you. I appreciate that! -OP |
| Omg- how scary. I wonder if this is a new challenge because I smelled firecrackers on my way home from work today and couldn’t figure out where the smell was coming from. What is wrong with people?? |
| America the stupid! |
| Oh wow. They could have startled a driver and caused a deadly accident. What's wrong with people!?! Good for you for keeping calm. You helped all the other drivers stay the course. Thanks, OP. |
| And…? Okay, some fool threw firecrackers at your vehicle. What do you want us to do about it? |
|
What an absolute a-hole. That could have caused a horrible accident and killed a ton of people.
Wish you had been able to call 911 to report |
Well at least now you know about it, and might be less startled if it happens to you. Why are you being rude? Are you pro-firecrackers-at-cars or something? |
| I still remember a drive 20 years ago when someone started throwing rocks out the window—like 10 or so of them, while we were driving about 60 miles an hour. It was terrifying. |
