I just found out that our catholic middle school has religion class every day. Is that true for all of the K-8 catholic schools at the middle school level?
We appreciate religion classes but every day is a bit too much. Just wondering if this is the norm or there are options where this is not the case and they have more time for other subjects. Through fifth grade, religion was only twice a week. |
| Pretty sure ours does. It’s just a regular subject for them in middle school, like literature or social studies. I guess I didn’t think much of it, but I don’t mind them learning about the catholic faith. |
| Our Catholic school has religion every day, and we like it that way. We choose to pay for Catholic school *because* we want a distinctly Catholic education for our kids- otherwise we would go to our highly-rated public elementary or a private school with a nicer campus. |
| It's a core subject for my son in Catholic school K-12th grade. |
|
Does your Catholic middle school also have English, Science and Math every day?
Religion in a Catholic school is a core subject. There probably isn’t a Catholic middle school in the country where it’s not taught every day. I can’t get over the number of posts on this forum complaining or asking about religion being taught in Catholic school. It’s CATHOLIC school. |
Exactly. This is ridiculous. |
| I have kids at two different Catholic schools. In middle, Religion is 3 or 4 days per week depending on the school. |
| Every day in every grade for us. We probably wouldn't be there otherwise. We're by no means "holy rollers" but we did choose Catholic school so we want what we pay for. |
| Everyday. And there’s a ton of religious stuff throughout the day (prayers at the beginning of most classes, projects about saints in English, etc). |
| Of course it is every day. Plus mass one time a week. And preparation for confirmation. Get used to it. Religion every day in HS as well. Jeez. |
Oh, if ADW, know your kid will be assessed for faith knowledge. So there is incentive to drill it into them lol. Enjoy!! |
| Catholic schools have had religion as a core subject from the start. In ES, we had Mass every month, not every week like here. |
| Everyday except on the day they have mass. |
| Of course. Why wouldn't it be? It's not an "add on" - it's a core subject just like English/language arts, math, science, social studies. Most people send their kids to Catholic school precisely because of that. |

Yes, every day at our Arlington diocese school and some teachers spend more than an hour by adding movies to watch and discuss, payers to memorize.
We initially didn’t have issues with that much Catholic education and homework, until we realized time spent on Social Studies and Science subjects was significantly cut (a few times per week) and even minimal content barely taught. The classes even watched religious movies. |
