| I admire this president. God he was smart and affable. |
| Not so classy to his mistress |
| How old are you? |
Not so. |
| Would be center left today. |

Under Eisenhower, the rich and big corporations were taxed much more appropriately than they are now (higher tax rates). CEOs weren't making astronomical salaries compared to their workers. Eisenhower tamped down out-of-control military spending and balanced it more with domestic spending. He invested in American infrastructure (interstate highway system), science, research and engineering (he founded NASA), and higher education. He passed civil rights legislation. He made many positive improvements to America.
But in the last few decades, Republicans have reversed course and have gone against every single one of those things, dragging us backward. |
Lol had the same thought. |
Tells you how badly the GOP has drifted. I like the pp’s list of what Eisenhower did. Plus his WWII career is nothing to sniff at either. |
ya, Ike died in 1961. His presidental term ended in 1952. So definitely over 70? |
. Some of us are well under 70 years old, but read history and aren't complete ignoramuses. |
Perhaps, even though educated, you are being very lax with the definition of the word "miss"? |
Seriously! Unless this person lived during Eisenhower's administration, it's like me saying, "I miss George Washington." |
| Do you know about Eisenhower's "Operation Wetback"? |
Is this supposed to be a gotcha? I don’t think anyone said he was infallible, and he was definitely a product of his time. Oddly, Mexico requested the program. And you can see how businesses created the whole issue of illegal southern border immigration; some things never change. And for those being pedantic about the verb to “miss:” I was born far too late to have experienced Eisenhower, but I did experience the GOP wrecking balling everything every single time they got power. I miss a time when the GOP genuinely seemed to care about America. I don’t think that’s true anymore. |
His presidential term began in 1952. It ended in 1960. Signed, A Gen X-er who was not alive during this time but can read history. And traveled to his farm in Gettysburg so that obviously makes me an expert in all things Ike. |
