Palmetto Bluff, worth the expense?

We are invited to a wedding there in a few months. It looks amazing but I was shocked at how expensive the rooms are (over $1100 a night for a basic room). We were originally going to be in Savannah for 2 nights and take a car to the wedding then we decided just to stay there.
For anyone who's been, do you think its worth it? Its like NYC high end hotel pricing. It looks beautiful....

It is a great property. Service is hit or miss. Food is great or bad no in between.

To clarify, is the wedding at the resort? It’s so fun to stay at the resort where the wedding is that the price might be worth it. If the wedding isn’t there, I would stay somewhere else.

I’ve never been but I am from SC and I’ve never understood why Yankees pay so much to stay there.

I would never pay $1100/night for a basic room, so no I would not stay there. And I also think its obnoxious for a bride and groom to imply their guests should spend that. Do they provide any alternative hotels with room blocks?

Not in a million years.

Stay at the Holiday Inn Express ($119/night) and you can spend $900 a day on Ubers and booze.

yes wedding is at Palmetto Bluff. They gave out a list of places to stay from a few local places beyond Palmetto Bluff to a few in downtown Savannah.

We decided to splurge there I read about it, them more it seems like it will be worth it (except food reviews are mixed). So many great reviews...hope its worth this big splurge!

Please post back once you have stayed there!

We went during covid (spring 2021 so it was not during the worst) and were really underwhelmed. The place is mostly for people who own homes and we found that most of the reservations and activities we wanted to do were unavailable. The house we rented was extremely expensive and it was very nice but not nicer than a lot of rentals we have visited. It’s a lovely and beautiful place but sort of left me cold. If I were going for a wedding I’d probably stay there or find out where other friends were staying and go there - because that would be the most fun option.

I can’t get past the fact that there’s no beach there but people still go

I was so underwhelmed by Palmetto Bluff. Not worth that price tag at all for the room or the resort.

No.

Horrible.

Me too, that really baffles me. People spend all that money but still have to drive a decent distance to get to a nice beach. Why not just visit Sea Island in that case.

Going for the first time in a few weeks and will report back!

It is absolutely beautiful, the accommodations are really luxurious, staff friendly. Food is only thing that is not consistent. Thought the newest place, a steak house with a speak easy was really really good.

Could not disagree more. It is not even close to the standards of a high end luxury resort like a Four Seasons. I thought rooms were just ok and outdated. It isn’t even near any pretty water or a beach. Would never go again at that price range. Spend the money near a beach somewhere like Sea Island or Sanctuary Lodge at Kiawah.
