Blair High School XC

My daughter really wants to try out for XC as a rising 9th grader. She has always played other sports but has never been a runner and is worried that she won't be up to running 3 miles easily (not walking at all) by the time tryouts start. Is it not worth going to tryouts unless she can run a 5K already?

Every is tired at first. Mine did it and a year later runs those distances just for fun.

Don't worry about the times when she starts. They will get much, much better.

OMG could you please stop micromanaging your child's life or at least ask people in person. This is like the 10th post by you.

People post here often to get information they don’t know how otherwise. Your post is unkind. You don’t have to read these threads.

Seriously - we don’t know a soul at the school and are just trying to figure things out. What’s your problem? My kid is quite independent but doesn’t know anyone yet either. I hope the Blair parent community is better than this poster.

I coached track and XC at a high school that produced national-rank athletes when I was there. Your DD will be fine, the main thing is to start running from now, do the C25K-- or get up and start running 1 mile and increase weekly. During practice for the first month, all they do is milage, walk run they don't care.

That poster is most likely a W school parent. The simple mention of "Blair" triggers them.

You just sound crazy with your multiple posts. Why not reach out to the PTA?

Blair XC is the most welcoming of all the sports at Blair. The kids and coaches are super nice. They don't do cuts because the coaches actually believe the kids will improve with time. Eventually some kids drop on their own. Let her start running now but she doesn't need to run 3miles by tryouts. As long as she can run a mile that should be good enough. My kid could only run a mile during tryouts. Your kiddo will be just fine.

My kid did XC as a freshman at Blair, with very little sports experience. It was fine. She wasn’t placing in the races, but they don’t cut from the team and it was a good way for her to meet some people and have some activities after school.

I have never heard of an mcos xc team with cuts.
