Success with timed intercourse and clomid/injectables?

Anonymous
Has anyone actually had success with a monitored timed intercourse cycle (with injectables& clomid)? Or know anyone who has? I'm in the midst of trying this out, but wondering if I should have just done IUI since I have to take all the same meds anyway. We don't have any diagnosed issues other than me being 36 and unsuccessfully ttc for the past 9 months. Fwiw, my insurance doesn't cover IUI procedures, but it is covering everything for a timed intercourse cycle. Thanks in advance.

Has your husband had a sperm analysis? If it's normal, the IUI rates are not much higher than timed intercourse.

I did the injectables with timed intercourse for two months without success. I would reccommend IUI as the success rates are higher than striaght timed IC. Like you my insurance covers meds and monitoring, but not the IUI itself...I think with CFA it's $500 which isn't horrible.

If you do continue with the timed intercourse I recommend using an at home OPK as wll just to keep an eye on your LH surge...

Op here, thanks for advice. Yes, husband's SA was ok - I should have added that I do have hypothyroid issues (being treated, but not yet at ideal tsh level) and my luteal phase is generally 10 days and under. My RE thinks the meds will help get my system back to my younger and apparently more fertile days. However, wondering if the iui would provide an added boost. Thanks again, and I will start using the opk at home per pp's advice.

Op again - I triggered on Sunday, supposedly ovulated on Tuesday, but for kicks, just did an opk test, which came up positive.

Is it possible that it was positive because it detected residual hcg from my trigger? Or is it possible that I really haven't ovulated yet?

Yeah, it was probably the hcg still in your system. IUI only increases your odds by about 6% (so if you have a 10% chance, IUI will up it to 10.6%), so not really worth it in my opinion. Using the meds to get multiple eggs is really what makes the difference (more targets), especially if DH's sperm are ok.

Thanks so much!

I don't think hcg trigger would affect a opk test since it measures LH

LH and HCG are very similar in makeup, which is why OPKs can register positive with HCG in your system. Look at this site: http://www.peeonastick.com/opkhpt.html

I got pregnant with timed intercourse and injectibles. I did two rounds of clomid and didn't respond. Got pregnant first month with the injectibles. If you feel more comfortable with IUI, that's cool. But I know that timed intercourse can work!

Oh that's great news - thanks! I also was unsuccessful on clomid alone for 2 months. Here's hoping for this first cycle with injectables!
